We were gifted a double stroller just before Seed was born. It is large, old, broken in a few places, a little sightly next to the up-to-date models, has a turning radius slightly smaller than that of our 8-passenger Suburban, and takes up our entire trunk space ... but it has also been one of our largest blessings this year (aside from Seed, of course!)
It seems to happen more often on days when I am not feeling 100%, or running late, or just not feeling graceful - those are the days I get to the grocery store to find out there are no carts! Speedy can walk himself. Sprout CAN walk, but I will not be able to do any shopping if I want to keep tabs on him, and Seed is not quite even sitting, so she'll definately have to go in her sling (hopefully I brought it, although this seems to be the kind of day on which I would either forget it at home, or have headache and dread using it). I have had to do this, on occassion. I have returned home with just what we needed, and return the next day for everything we will be needing.
Then there are the smaller stores, the thrift stores, that just do not have carts. Even if I carry both "littles" into the store, I would not be able to look at anything with Sprout in my arms as well as Seed in her sling.
It is such a blessing, in these situations, to be able to open my trunk, and take out the double stroller, and stroll through the store.
The double stroller has saved me so many times. It is well loved, and well used. We are anticipating that it will not last the summer. We took a peak at new ones in the stores, and were suprised at how (relatively) inexpensive they have become. So it looks like we will be puchasing one in the spring.
If you feel so inclined, you may contribute to our "new stroller fund" for Sprout's birthday gift!
